Glossary Term

Competitive Text Links

Contextual links that use meaningful service, product, location, or category language instead of generic anchor text like click here or website.

Competitive text links are links written with useful context. Instead of linking only the business name or the word website, the link can include the product, service, location, or category that matters to the business.

For example, a marine repair business may benefit from links around dock repair, boat lift service, seawall repair, and the coastal towns it serves. The link text should be accurate and natural, not stuffed or misleading.

Why They Matter

Search engines use link context as one signal among many. When a researched third-party page links to a relevant service page with clear text, it can help reinforce what that destination page is about.
