Glossary Term

Share of Voice

A measure of how much visibility a business or website has compared with competitors across a defined set of search queries or market signals.

Share of voice compares how visible one business is against competitors across a defined set of terms, categories, or market signals. In search, it often measures how frequently a site or brand appears in important rankings relative to others.

For local businesses, share of voice can be tracked by city, service line, map pack presence, organic ranking, review visibility, or AI-discoverable mentions. It helps show whether one provider is becoming more visible than another.

Why It Is Useful

A single ranking can be misleading. Share of voice gives a broader view by asking how often a business appears across many relevant searches, not just whether it ranks for one keyword.
