Most slow packaging quotes are not the supplier's fault.
The request says "we need bags" and the next week goes to questions. How big? How thick? Printed or plain? Will food touch it?
Settle a few answers before you call and the first reply can be a real price. Every answer below comes from what Orlando-area suppliers publish on their own websites.
Film or Finished Bags: Which One Are You Buying?
Start with how the product goes into the package. That one answer tells you which kind of company to call.
- Rollstock film A packing machine forms, fills and seals the bag on your line. The roll has to match that machine, including core size, roll width and winding.
- Finished bags People on your team drop the product in and close the bag. Size, gusset, venting and closure style matter most.
- Printed pouches Stand up or lay flat pouches that sell on a shelf. Print quality and a resealable zipper usually drive the choice.
In Orlando, Prime Film Extrusion makes film and rollstock on its own lines. SunDance prints pouches and rollstock on a digital press. Serv-Pak Corporation supplies finished bags and routes other jobs to Prime Film or partners.
Stock Bags or Custom Printed Bags?
A stock bag is plain and already made. It is the fast, low-commitment choice for a new product or a short season.
A custom printed bag carries your logo, ingredients or heating instructions. It needs artwork and a proof, and it comes with a minimum order.
Minimums are where buyers get surprised. Bagmasters in St. Petersburg is the only supplier in our research that publishes a number, 500 pounds of film for a custom job. Prime Film explains that its minimum depends on how long the line takes to change over. A common film in a common width runs lower than a new multi-layer structure.
Print method matters too. Digital printing needs no plates, so several designs can share one short run. SunDance prints this way. Plate-based flexographic printing, which Prime Film uses, usually makes more sense for long runs of one design.
What to Send With an Orlando Flexible Packaging Quote
Prime Film and Serv-Pak both publish what they want to see. Put these together and you have one request that works for any supplier.
- The product and how it is packed By hand or on a machine, and whether it is sold the same day or held longer.
- Size Width, length and any gusset. For rollstock, add roll width, core size and roll diameter.
- Material and thickness, if you know them If you do not know, describe what the bag has to survive. A good supplier will help write the spec.
- Quantity Per order and per year. Yearly volume often changes the price more than the first order does.
- Print and artwork Plain or printed, number of colors and whether your artwork is ready.
- Food contact Say yes or no up front, and ask for the answer on the written quote.
- A sample or spec sheet A current bag or roll with its spec gives the supplier something real to match.
- Your deadline Rush jobs change which supplier and which print method make sense.
